Sven Pl\u00f6ger, born in 1967 in Bonn, is a meteorologist with a degree in meteorology, a book author, and a weather presenter. From a young age, he was fascinated by the sky, clouds, and aviation, leading him to study meteorology at the University of Cologne.<\/p>\n
Since 1999, Sven Pl\u00f6ger has appeared on television, presenting live weather programs such as “Wetter vor acht”<\/em> before the Tagesschau<\/em>, weather updates after the Tagesthemen<\/em>, and numerous weather broadcasts on ARD\u2019s regional channels.<\/p>\n In 2010, he was honored with the “Best Weather Presenter in Germany” award at the Extreme Weather Congress in Bremerhaven.<\/p>\n As early as 2002, Sven Pl\u00f6ger began delivering lectures on climate change. Recognizing the importance of this critical topic early on, he has been a passionate advocate for improving climate communication. He is a frequent and knowledgeable guest on talk shows and also hosts events related to climate change.<\/p>\n In 2009, his first book on climate change, “Gute Aussichten f\u00fcr morgen”<\/em> (Bright Prospects for Tomorrow<\/em>), was published. By 2023, Sven Pl\u00f6ger had authored seven books on weather and climate, including the No. 1 SPIEGEL bestseller “Zieht euch warm an, es wird hei\u00df”<\/em> (Dress Warmly, It’s Getting Hot<\/em>, 2020) and the bestseller “Die Alpen und wie sie unser Wetter beeinflussen”<\/em> (The Alps and How They Influence Our Weather<\/em>, 2022).<\/p>\n In 2015, Sven Pl\u00f6ger, along with science journalist Rolf Schlenker, began filming the six-part ARD documentary series “Wo unser Wetter entsteht”<\/em> (Where Our Weather Begins<\/em>), which aired periodically until 2020.<\/p>\n In September 2023, Sven Pl\u00f6ger embarked on a journey to Panama for a new ARD documentary titled “Wie extrem wird das Wetter, Sven Pl\u00f6ger? \u2013 Die Macht des El-Ni\u00f1o”<\/em> (How Extreme Will the Weather Get, Sven Pl\u00f6ger? \u2013 The Power of El Ni\u00f1o<\/em>). In June 2024, he, along with author Luise Wagner, received the “Prince Rainier III. Special Prize”<\/em> for this documentary at the 63rd International Film Festival in Monte Carlo, Monaco.<\/p>\n Two more episodes of this documentary series are planned for 2025 and 2026.<\/p>\n Sven Pl\u00f6ger’s fascination with flying remains unwavering.
