Tobias Mitter has been Chief Information Officer (CIO) at E.ON Energie Deutschland GmbH since 1 September 2025. He studied business informatics and information science at the University of Saarland, where he also completed his master’s degree. After gaining start-up experience in the development of digital platforms for energy companies, he worked internationally at IBM and Boston Consulting Group in the areas of digital platforms and business models and IoT solutions in the energy and automotive industries.
In 2020, he joined the E.ON Group, where he held various management roles. Before taking on the CIO role, Tobias Mitter was Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer at gridX, Europe’s leading smart energy company based in Munich and Aachen. There, he was responsible for product development, the development department and the production of XENON. The digital energy platform connects various decentralised energy resources such as PV systems and battery storage and intelligently controls energy flows. He was also responsible for the IoT gateway ‘gridBox’.
Tobias Mitter’s focus is on developing and scaling digital technologies, including those based on AI, in order to achieve sustainable transformation. He sees digitalisation not only as a technological basis, but also as a strategic lever for the further development of products and business models.
In addition to his professional activities, Tobias Mitter is committed to diversity and the acceptance of LGBTQ+ people in the workplace. He also advocates for a CO₂-neutral energy supply.
